About Manuden School

Manuden is a busy village school situated in Bishop’s Stortford between the Essex and Hertfordshire border.

Manuden strives to enable all pupils to achieve highly in their learning, providing pupils with the opportunity to gain experience in a wider range of curriculum activities. Manuden implemented Complete P.E. to provide a framework for teachers to follow to ensure consistent high quality physical education across the school.

Teachers now feel more confident when teaching all areas of the PE curriculum.

Megan Evans, PE Leader
Why did you decide to implement Complete P.E. at Manuden?

Staff were lacking in confidence when teaching PE, pupils were spending long periods inactive and were not physically or cognitively challenged during their lessons.

Having tried several schemes of work, Complete P.E. provided progressive units of work, with activities that challenged physical, cognitive, social and emotional learning.

What is the objective of Complete P.E. at Manuden?

We required a scheme of work that provides a comprehensive framework for teachers to follow to ensure high quality PE. We believe that Complete P.E. has all the components; progressive plans, interactive videos and an assessment tool that would support teachers to plan, deliver and assess consistent High Quality PE.

What impact has Complete P.E. had on your teaching staff?

The detailed lesson content has helped increase teachers subject knowledge. The bespoke videos provide valuable on-going CPD that helps teachers develop their understanding of the fundamental components of a high quality PE lesson.

Teachers now feel more confident when teaching all areas of the PE curriculum.

What impact has Complete P.E. had on your pupils?

The general consensus throughout the school is that pupils have a more positive perception of PE.

Observations show that pupils are now physically active for sustained periods and have increased their physical literacy.

When speaking with pupils around the school, the general feedback from pupils is that they look forward to all their PE lessons.

What has the overall impact been on your PE provision?

The quality of teaching and learning has improved across the whole school since the implementation of Complete P.E.

Lessons flow, have pace, pupils are appropriately challenged but most importantly, pupils always look forward to their PE lessons.

..pupils are now physically active for sustained periods and have increased their physical literacy.
